New Well P&A Technology Qualification Framework
NZTC, supported by Astrimar, have published a new guidance framework to support adoption of new technologies in Well P&A
The new framework, 'Well P&A Technology Qualification Framework', published by Net Zero Technology Centre, has been developed in collaboration with Astrimar Ltd and the operator members of the Wells Decommissioning Collaboration, with input from regulators and technology developers.
The first-of-a-kind, qualification framework, designed specifically for Well P&A, provides a clear, evidence-based method to simplify the approval process, enabling the use of new or modified alternative materials for permanently plugging and abandoning oil and gas wells.

The framework forms a structured pathway to demonstrate technology readiness and reduce deployment risk, from understanding technology specification through to demonstrating that all requirements are met.
Designed to be flexible, the framework applies broadly across all barrier and material types and can be adapted for use in multiple regions.
